Sigma Kappa is involved with a lot of philanthropies, not just through the sorority but through the school as well. Each sister must earn 10 service hours a semester. This past year, Zeta Pi of Sigma Kappa has participated in the following philanthropy events:
Walk to End Alzheimer's:
Each year our chapter volunteers and participates at Denver’s annual Walk to End Alzheimer's. We help with registration and water stations at the event as well was raise money and walk as a team to help find a cure for this disease.
With your help, we can #ENDALZ!
Every fall, our chapter hosts a big event to raise money for the Sigma Kappa foundation which supports all of our nationally-recognized philanthropies and provides scholarships and emergency aid to sisters in need. This past year our chapter hosted a Bubble Soccer Tournament!
Thank you to everyone who came to the event and participated.
Bone Marrow Drive:
Aside from Sigma Kappa’s nationally-recognized philanthropies and service projects, our chapters takes on a cause very special to us. After having one of our own sisters pass away from leukemia in 2008, we decided to partner with DKMS and Genny's Hope Foundation to help #DeleteBloodCancer and sponsor an annual Bone Marrow drive at the Colorado School of Mines. This past year we added 163 new people to the DKMS registry!
A few of our of sisters have become matches and were able to traveled across the country to donate their bone marrow to a patient in need!
Thank you to everyone who has helped support this cause and joined the register!
Inherit the Earth Highway Cleanup:
Each semester, our chapter teams up with Mines fraternity Sigma Nu to clean the highway on Mt. Zion, where the iconic Colorado School of Mines 'M' is displayed. We get up early, make a pancake breakfast, and brave the elements to keep our highway clean and scenic!
Maine Seacoast Mission:
Each year, we hold drives to donate new and gently used goods to the Maine Seacoast Mission, dedicated to providing after-school programs, food, scholarships, and Christmas gifts for people in need.
Week Of Giving:
Every year our chapter gives back to our community with a week long service event that includes, baking cookies for Mines Police and Golden Fire, collecting presents for the children's hospital, visiting a local memory care and assisted living facility, writing letters to the troops, and handing out coffee on the Pedestrian Plaza to students and staff at Mines.
Thank you to the men Sigma Alpha Epsilon for helping us make and deliver cards to children in the hospital and the men of Beta Theta Pi for visiting Ashley Manor with us during our week of giving!
On top of sponsoring our own events we love to support other organizations on campus by volunteering and attending:
- Coffee House for CASA Children
- Pi Beta Phi's Pancake Breakfast
- Nightmare on Greek Street
- Helluva Service Event
