Sigma Kappa is involved with a lot of philanthropies, not just through the sorority but through the school as well. Each sister must earn 10 service hours a semester. This past year, Zeta Pi of Sigma Kappa has participated in the following philanthropy events:
Walk to End Alzheimer's: http://act.alz.org/site/TR/Walk2017/CO-Colorado?pg=entry&fr_id=10411
Each year, our chapter volunteers in the Denver Walk to End Alzheimer's, and raises money to donate to this foundation. With your help, we can #ENDALZ!
Bone Marrow Drive: https://gennyhope.org/
After having one of our own sisters pass away from leukemia, we decided we were going to do whatever it took to save lives like hers. Each year, we partner with DKMS and Genny's Hope Foundation to help #deletebloodcancer. In 2017, we swabbed 253 people. Some sisters even traveled across the country to donate their bone marrow to people in need! Thanks to all that came and swabbed their cheek.
Inherit the Earth Highway Cleanup:
Twice each semester, our chapter teams up with Mines fraternity Sigma Nu to clean the highway on Mt. Zion, where the iconic Colorado School of Mines 'M' is displayed. We get up early, make a pancake breakfast, and brave the elements to keep our highway clean and scenic!
Maine Sea Coast Mission: https://seacoastmission.org/
Each year, we hold drives to donate new and gently used goods to the Maine Sea Coast Mission, dedicated to providing after-school programs, food, scholarships, and Christmas gifts for people in need.
AlphaTraz: AlphaTraz is a philanthropy event hosted by Alpha Phi. In it, we pay to keep our own members in or out of jail, to raise money for women's heart health. This year, we kept Mines Panhellenic Council President and Sigma Kappa member Megan Hansen in jail, helping Alpha Phi raise money for women's heart health!
E-Days: For E-Days, members helped to organize MAC (Mines Activity Council) events, such as helping to set up for the concerts.
Ultra Violet: Members helped advertise, set up, run, and clean up for the Ultra Violet Carnival to raise money for Alzheimer's and Gerontology research.
Pi Beta Phi's Pancake Breakfast: On the last day of E-Days, Pi Beta Phi of Colorado School of Mines hosts a pancake feast to support their philanthropy of children's literacy. Our chapter always attends and donates to the cause, while taking our fair share of pancakes in the process!
