As an organization Sigma Kappa encourages our members to be involved in their campus and community. Because of this focus on involvement outside of Sigma Kappa, our sisters are able to engage with the campus and community in ways that are important to them by hosting and participating in a number of different events.
We as a chapter pride ourselves on being a sisterhood of support for our sisters in whatever their passion or interested are. You will catch us at lacrosse games cheering on our sisters, sitting front row during a Mines Little Theater/Orchestra and Band performance, buying up all the grilled cheeses from our sisters involved in Hike4Help, and attending research symposiums that our sisters contributed to. Sigma Kappa sisters have travelled the world together whether it’s for a study abroad experience, participating in Hike4Help’s annual Nepal trip, or just a fun Spring break with sisters! There is always a group of us at the house waiting to hear about all the amazing things our sisters are up to!
When we’re not busy being leaders on our campus or studying for our upcoming exam we love to kick back and have some fun! Here are some of the events we participated in last year as a chapter.
Whether it's a planned dodgeball tournament or an impromptu Disney movie night, we spend more quality time with each other than anything else. Past events include Mug Painting, Roller-Skating, Ice-Skating, and a Zoom Movie Night! Even studying can be fun with our sisters!
Every year we host a bunch of events in support of our chapter philanthropies. For more information about these specific events, check out our Chapter Philanthropy page!
Formal and Semiformal
With Semi Formal in fall and Formal in spring, these events are opportunities for our chapter to get together, bring our closest friends and loved ones, and see the amazing sights of Colorado. Semi Formal 2019 was a pallet paint night where sisters could make beautiful artwork to hang up in their homes, the chapter house, and their residence hall rooms! Due to the coronavirus pandemic, our official Spring 2020 Formal was canceled. This didn't stop us though! Several sisters dressed up and gathered on Zoom for a social distancing consistent formal and caught up with what each other had been up to in the past few months!
Mr. Big Digger
Each E-Days, we kick off the weekend with our male beauty pageant, Mr. Big Digger. With Formal Attire, Swimwear, and Talent as our categories, we recruit the president of each sorority and one special faculty member to judge the competition. Our male contestants represent groups all over campus: fraternities, athletic teams, the marching band and even themed learning communities in the residence halls!
Each year, the Colorado School of Mines Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council get together to plan a week of fun and bonding for all Greek life members on campus! Our members not only attend each event, but help plan and set up events as well! Highlights from last year include the Relay for School Supplies, an All-Greek BBQ, and volleyball!
